Last session of the day. That one was more of the practical side. Some guys from DreamWorks were showing, how they did some of the stuff from Madagascar (and Shrek 2). It was quite a contrast to the other sessions I've been to.
They are much more concerned with easy access than absolute realism. The animators have to be able to control the system. Additionally for them it is absolutely top priority, that the animators can not mess with objects, so the design stays consistent.
That was a very interesting look on the things. They showed, how they had done the plant movements, the hair on Shrek 2 (also used for the animals on Madagascar) and how they did the vines.
The most impressive although was a guy, who did a 5 minute movie entirely on his own. He created a 3D environment and objects and 2D hand drawn people. He showed us, how he did it or more specifically his workflow. Very interesting.
